The idea of construction of television antenna appeared in late 1953. It belonged to enthusiasts of radio-club DOSAAF. In the middle of the March 1954, special group on construction of amateur TV centre in Saransk was organized by the republican committee of DOSAAF. Already in summer 1954 our representatives went to Moscow, Leningrad, Gorky to receive building and assembling experience and to obtain necessary details and components for future amateur TV centre in Saransk. In August 1954 newspaper «Pravda» wrote about preparations for training TV centre to be put in operation in Saransk.
On a holiday, February 23, 1956 television screens in Saransk, Ruzaevka, Romodanovo received first images.
Nowadays we can be proud of the fact, that Saransk became one of the first cities in our country to have television antenna.
In September 1961 State committee accepted TV centre from builders and mounters, then adjustment of equipment started.
…It was a memorable evening of October 7, 1961. At 18 o’clock panoramic image of Saransk with high black-and-white antenna and an inscription «Saransk presents» above it appeared.
